IBM Db2 virtualization process

The following material introduces you to the overall process of deploying the IBM Db2 virtualization solution. A sequence of high-level steps is presented. Each step briefly describes the task and the expected result. For more information, refer to the embedded links.

  1. Begin by reviewing the general Delphix Continuous Data Engine architecture diagrams. Identify existing or new IBM Db2 source, staging, target environments, the underlying operating systems, and IBM Db2 database versions. This will give you a good understanding of the architectural strategy and confirm support.

  2. Review the IBM Db2 support matrix. Confirm that your combination of IBM Db2 software, host operating system, Delphix Continuous Data Engine version, and IBM Db2 connector version are supported for the various environments that will integrate into your IBM Db2 deployment. Early validation will reduce unexpected issues later.

  3. Deploy and configure the Delphix Continuous Data Engine.

  4. Install the IBM Db2 connector. The IBM Db2 connector extends the Delphix Continuous Data Engine to IBM Db2 datasets. It is recommended to stay current with the latest version of the connector.

  5. Create staging and target environments. The staging environment will host an IBM Db2 instance that the Delphix Continuous Data Engine will ingest from. The target environment will host one or more IBM Db2 instance(s) in which the virtual database copies will be created.

    1. Consult the source environment and staging/target environments requirements documentation for configuration details.

  6. Add staging and target environments in the Delphix Continuous Data Engine. Use the "Add Environment" operation in the Delphix Continuous Data Engine for each host, which causes the Delphix Continuous Data Engine to register the specific host and catalog the IBM Db2 software installation(s) on that host.

  7. Link the IBM Db2 source database. Configure and create a dSource which allows the Delphix Continuous Data Engine to capture a copy of the source data. There are many ingestion methods that can offer a variety of methods to capture the data to be virtualized by the Delphix Continuous Data Engine. Therefore, we recommend identifying the ingestion method best suits your organization and infrastructure policies.

  8. Provision virtual IBM Db2 databases. Administrators and users can provision multiple copies of the source data as virtual databases.
