SAP HANA installation and upgrade

The SAP HANA connector is managed through the Delphix Continuous Data Engine’s plugin framework. Plugins are distributed separately from the engine. The plugin must be installed before SAP HANA Environments can be identified on the engine, and before attempting any SAP HANA virtualization operations. 

Downloading the connector  

Perform the following steps to download the SAP HANA connector to your desktop system. 

1. Log in to the Delphix Download Portal using your credentials from the Delphix Support Portal. 

2. Find the SAP HANA plugin folder by navigating to the “Delphix Product Releases/Continuous Data Connectors/SAP HANA/HANA 2.0” path and selecting the desired version’s folder. 

3. Download the .zip plugin file by clicking "Plugin_HANA_<version>.zip”

4. After the download completes, extract the contents of the downloaded .zip file to obtain a JSON file. For example, Plugin_HANA_6.3.3.json.

   1. Along with the JSON file, this zip will also have create_backup_metadata.sh script file. This script will need to be manually run against the source database to produce the necessary dataset backup metadata.

Installing the connector 

Perform the following steps to upload and install a new connector. 

1. Log in to the Delphix Management application. 

2. Navigate to the Manage > Plugins page. 

3. To upload a plugin, click the icon. his action displays an "Upload or Upgrade a Plugin" dialog window.  

4. Browse to the JSON file on your desktop and then extract it.

5. Upload the extracted JSON (for example, Plugin_HANA_6.3.3.json) file.

Upgrading the connector 

The connector must be upgraded to a specific version in order to accommodate new features and bug fixes that can affect its configuration. If the existing connector version is particularly old, connector upgrades may also require Delphix Continuous Data Engine upgrades.  

 Warning: Skipping a recommended version upgrade path may lead to configuration issues. Consult the Support Matrix for full compatibility details. 

Perform the following steps alongside the upgrade path to ensure your configuration remains compatible with minimal disruption. 

1. Upload the most recent version of the plugin. Refer to the Installing the connector documentation for more information.   

2. Once the upgrade is complete, navigate to Manage > Plugins to verify the plugin version. 

   

3. Using the Delphix Continuous Data Engine UI, refresh all relevant environments associated with this connector. 

4. Confirm that the connector discovery process was successful. 

5. Create new snapshots of the dSource and VDB.

Follow the upgrade path outlined below to upgrade to newer versions of the HANA plugin. 

 Warning: If you have installed a Lua-based SAP HANA plugin (ie before v6.0.0), we recommend contacting your Delphix Account Team before you upgrade. Datasets created using the Lua version cannot be upgraded to the vSDK version.
